The Builders St. Louis Home and Garden Show will be the best place in the Midwest this weekend for shopping, learning, playing, and just stopping to smell the roses. The show offers attractions for kids of all ages, gardeners and garage gearheads, home designers and home improvement DIYers – all in one sprawling location.
Kid Stuff at the Home and Garden Show
Bring kids of any age who will enjoy gardens made from balloons, garden ponds stocked with Koi fish, and garden paths paved with cobblestones. There is even a Children’s Garden Club designed for authentic kids (not the vintage models!) where children can plant herbs or make a bird feeder.
Clifford the Big Red Dog will be available at the American Family Insurance booth, promoting his “BE BIG” campaign, and the Disc-Connected K9s will show us how fun and talented “rescue” dogs can be.
Growing Things at the Home and Garden Show
Gardeners will be in their happy place when browsing through no less than five feature gardens and dozens of individual booths sponsored by lawn and garden companies. Achievement-oriented green thumbs can flaunt their stuff or just take notes at the 8th Annual Flower Show in America’s Center.
Budding botanists can also step into the Green Thumb Theater and benefit from the combined wisdom of Joe Lamp’l and Jeff Holper. These presenters are offering seminars Wednesday through Sunday on subjects ranging from vegetables to garden pests to garden gadgets.
Home and Garden Gadgets
Speaking of gadgets, you will find no limit of cylinder-, solar- and imagination- driven devices for gardening, cooking and simply living the good life. Scott’s Power Equipment will spotlight the year’s newest lawn mowers, and Prestige Pools and Spas can show you a swim spa with an iPod docking station. You could also find some Gecko’s Toes to help you store your hoses and cords.
Home and Garden Design
Professional, amateur and potential designers will find a plethora of seminars and displays to educate and inspire them. The American Society of Interior Designers will be well represented in the Better Living Theater Seminars, and nationally-known experts will dispense advice at the Kitchen and Bath Stage. The Interior Design Marketplace will be full of paint, textile and furniture booths. From Amish furniture by Das Holtz Haus to quarried stone countertops from Cambria, you’ll be able to see, touch and compare acres of products and materials.
When you become overwhelmed by the possibilities or aren’t sure about some details, a visit to the Mosby Solution Center will put you in touch with a small army of certified professionals. These folks can give you one-on-one advice on choosing and installing skylights, sump pumps, and everything in-between.
This year’s Home and Garden Show has something for everyone to see, learn, explore, and enjoy. If you are anywhere in the Midwest this weekend, and you aren’t chained to a fence, see you there! If you are chained to a fence, come along anyway and bring the fence; someone will be able to help you with that.
The Builders St. Louis Home and Garden show runs from February 25-28 at America’s Center and the Edward Jones Dome in downtown St. Louis.
