“Oh, my aching back!”
How many times have you said that? You suffer from back pain yet hesitate to go to the doctor and have the problem checked out because you don’t want to take pain pills or endure the agony of surgery.
Or perhaps you’ve already seen a doctor, but you’re still suffering. Back pain can be chronic and debilitating if you don’t receive help, but where do you turn next? There may be one more solution you haven’t yet tried.
Chiropractic medicine is an all natural, noninvasive way to treat back pain and other health problems. “Many times we can help patients prevent or avoid drugs and invasive surgeries,” says Jennifer Daily, D.C., and owner of Dailey Chiropractic Care in St. Peters, MO. ” Patients come to me everyday and tell me stories of how they have lived daily with pain and after a few adjustments have felt better than they have for years.”
Could a back pain chiropractic specialist be a solution for you?
The History of Chiropractic Treatment for Back Pain
As far back as the early days of the world, wise men suspected a strong association between health and the condition of the spine. Hippocrates said “Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases.” It was not until 1895, however, that chiropractic was recognized as a distinct form of health care.
Daniel David Palmer, better known as D. D. Palmer, made the decision in 1885 to work with Paul Caster, a fairly successful magnetic healer. Two years later he started his own practice, the Palmer Cure and Infirmary. In September 1895, Palmer realized that his janitor, Harvey Lillard, was deaf. He learned Lillard had not always been deaf, but one day the janitor had been in a cramped, stooped position and something in his back popped. When he stood up, he could no longer hear.
Palmer knew there must be a connection between the two events. He examined Lillard’s spine and felt a vertebra in an unnatural position. Eventually he persuaded Mr. Lillard to allow him to manipulate the man’s vertebra back into its normal place. When he did, Mr. Lillard’s hearing was restored. This became the first recorded chiropractic treatment, and D.D. Palmer and his son B.J. went on to establish the first chiropractic school.
Modern Chiropractic Practice as Back Pain Specialists
Chiropractic treatments have evolved tremendously since then. When you think of a chiropractor, you may imagine an adjustment racked with pain, with necks being twisted and vertebra popping, but that is not the case with today’s modern tools. Dr. Dailey says, ” We use NASA technology, called the PRO-ADJUSTER. By using a computer-based system to perform an analysis and adjustment of the spine (or extremities), you no longer have to get your neck or back twisted and popped to achieve proper spinal alignment. There’s no more apprehension or anxiety while you get adjusted.”
Chiropractic for More than Just Back Pain Remedies
Many people think that chiropractic treatment is only meant to help back and neck pain, but chiropractic treatment is also used to resolve problems like headaches, tendinitis, arthritis, asthma, digestive problems, fibromyalgia and many other issues. Chiropractors determine if you need orthotics (custom molded shoe inserts) to help support the feet, knees, hips or spine, and can provide natural pain-relieving gels and nutritional supplements. In fact, many people choose to receive chiropractic treatment as a wellness procedure because when the spine is kept in proper alignment, the body is better able to function at optimum levels.
