Etched Glass Bloks Come In Variety Of Sizes

Glass Blocks For Showers, Or Create A Focal Point With A Custom Wall

When you want shine, glitter, light and pizazz–or a mural-sized portrait of you and the family dog–in your home design, consider etched glass blocks.

Homeowners provide a custom image, or choose one from a selection of more than 25 standard images, which can be etched into clear or colored glass blocks. After installation, the blocks create a focal point for any room or exterior.

High Tech Glass Etching on Glass Blocks

Using computer controlled, sealed beam laser etching equipment, it is now possible to put unique images and patterns onto glass blocks at a cost effective price.  Columbus Glass Block is one company who provides this glass etching service for murals, bathroom glass blocks or even personalized glass block gifts.

The carbon dioxide laser beam that’s used is capable of up to 600 dots per inch of resolution allowing images of people, pets, hobbies, sports, or architectural patterns to be etched into the blocks surface. The beam is controlled to a .001″ diameter (which is 100 times smaller than the period at the end of a sentence) which provides sharper detailing than engraving or sandblasting glass.

Glass Blocks as Design Elements

Mike Foti, President of Columbus Glass Block says he’s currently working with an architect and interior designer on a project where they will combine etched glass with colored glass block in a day care center. “The design possibilities are endless. This new service will allow us to revolutionize the use of glass blocks. With the ability to create customization, or use standard patterns, without a minimum order quantity we can create really cool windows, walls, showers or gifts with glass blocks.”

The etched glass can also be used as a structure for bathroom glass blocks to form a wall to build your shower. The window products can be prefabricated with or without vinyl frames for easy installation. The walls can be pre-made with vinyl stack spacers and anchored and stacked for showers, partitions, or directional signs and company logos in lobbies.

Color glass blocks can mixed in for more style and interest. The blocks are put together with mortar or a glass block silicone sealant. There are ends, corners, and angle blocks to create shaped walls and finished edges. The etched blocks can be used for outside or inside applications.

This process can also be used to create personalized glass gifts.  For instance, using a glass block for a vase, a piggy-bank, or pre-drilled glass block light.   Images and text can be “etched in” making awards, or , mementos of holidays, weddings, anniversaries, or baby shower gifts.

Personalize Your Glass Blocks

A wedding favor can be created with a glass block vase with the image of the couple getting married and the wedding date.  An award can be customized with the logo of the organization and the recipient’s name, or a keepsake for a special friend or relative.

I just noticed your information on etching glass blocks and would like to know more about this.Would they be etched on the inside surface? Would you instruct someone how how to do this or do I have to get the blocks already etched from you? Also interested in putting things such as flowers, photos, etc inside of the blocks. Also interested in the dichroic blocks and would like a price on these items. Do the blocks come in halves and then glued together later? Do you have books or “how to” information on these projects? Thanks for any information you can give me.
