No, it's not John Wayne...It's Duke, the bed-bug sniffing dog!
Bed bugs are the new bug of the century. Forty percent of the population reacts to nibbles from these bad bugs. If you’ve ever seen red blotches on your skin in the morning, or if you have unexplained itches when you wake up, it’s probably those little marauders.
So Duke was sent to Florida for four months to learn how to sniff them out. Jeff Holper, owner of Holper’s Pest and Animal Solutions and owner of Duke, keeps up Duke’s training by keeping a colony of bed bugs alive here in town so that Duke can keep sniffing them out. Ick!
Now that we’ve completely freaked you out about crawling into bed, you may be wondering what other uninvited critters may be hanging out at your place.
Do you have critters gnawing on your eaves? Got bats in your attic? Jeff will seal up the area where they enter your home in a very attractive manner. Luckily, I have never had this problem, but if you’re a St. Louisan with this problem, watch for Jeff at the St. Charles Home Show, where he’ll be available to chat with you about how to get rid of your uninvited pests.
What about squirrels? This time of year, they run rampant. Now mind you, they don’t call me Ellie May for nothing. I’ve never met a squirrel who didn’t deserve its three-squares a day. BUT not everyone feels the way I do about their extended furry family. In fact, squirrels can be very destructive by chewing on wiring, decks, leaving behind the remnants of their nut feasts, etc. So Jeff will dispose of them and your wiring will stay intact.
Jeff doesn’t just remove animals and bed bugs. In the Midwest, we see a lot of Brown Recluse spiders (and we are NOT talking about the “Charlotte’s Web” type here). These arachnids do some damage when they bite. Jeff catches and exterminates these spiders.
In fact, Jeff is president of the Missouri Pest Control Association, so he’s also recognized as an expert by his peers. Jeff tells me Holper’s Animal and Pest Solution does a very thorough inspection of your home, inside and out, which is crucial. Exterminating just on the inside isn’t enough, he says.
Holper’s Pest and Animal Solutions is getting GREEN certified, which is VERY exciting. They will be doing more inspections and monitoring, rather than using so many chemicals. For animal lovers like me, that’s an alternative solution I’m really looking forward to supporting.
